Staten Island sandlot baseball notebook: Brothers Pastries to face Staten Island Pirates

Brothers Pastries meets the Staten Island Pirates to highlight a five-game card in the T-M Major on Sunday.

Brothers currently sits in first place with a 5-2 record and manager Joe Calabrese?s club is fianally starting to get healthy on the field.

Sunday, they play a much-improved Pirates club, 4-3, that has already matched its win total from last season, its first in the T-M.

Pete Amadeo has been throwing as well as anyone in the league lately and the offense, led by Steve Stiller, Jonathan Thomas, Jordan Starks, Joe Gebron and JC Sciacca, is proving the team can score runs against the Island?s top sandlot division.

Also Sunday, Team DMZ (4-2) can move into first place with a Brothers loss and sweep of always dangerous Dependable Auto Body; and Reyes Progreso plays two against Victory Sports and the NY Dynasty. ?

It?s a three-way race for the Legends Sports/Murphy League pennant, with Mug Shots (9-2), the Falcons (8-2) and Victory State Bank (8-3) all seperated by just one game.

Sunday, Mug Shots has the toughest matchup against the Siegel Family (5-4), led by Chris and Tom Consolmagno and veteran Chuck Elder.

In the Peter Tomasino League, Moe?s Southwest Grill (9-0) can put some distance between themselves and the rest of the league with a doubleheader sweep of the Beer Garden Cubs.
